Dental Sedation
At Vic West Dentistry in Victoria, our dentists offer dental sedation options to help make patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
We use a number of techniques to help patients feel more at ease during their dental procedures. At Vic West Dentistry, we do everything in our power to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed during dental appointments.
Along with offering dental sedation options, we are committed to working at your pace, taking breaks when you need them, and offering calm reassurance as needed. Our dentists can help determine whether a dental sedation option is right for you.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide has a calming effect on patients, though they remain awake and able to communicate. When inhaled through the nose and mouth, this medication tends to increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex, make time pass more quickly and lessen anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist may prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form to be taken about an hour before your dental appointment. While the sedative will leave you awake for your procedure, it produces a calming effect to induce feelings of significant relaxation.
