My family ( me & my kids) loves this dental clinic. The hygienists are amazing ( I won't drop names in terms of people skills & thoroughness in cleaning & polishing. They're well educated, experienced, intuitive & super patient. You come out feeling really well with white teeth. ( I've been coming to this clinic for many years).The front desk people are awesome in the way they greet people & exchange kind words. The office is clean & welcoming. I love the dentists! I like the way that Dr. Tranter is just so down to earth, humorous & well..not scary. Oh gosh, here I go trying to remember my kids' dentist's name..Dr.G? I loved when I told him my kid's tooth was growing in crooked ( out of the side of her gum?) & he immediately knew what was happening ( thank you for not missing that day of dentist school Dr. G He, upon examining her face, explained it wouldn't rectify itself, that it would take 2 minutes to pull out, and I knew it had to be done. I agreed to have her tooth pulled. My Òbaby'sÓ mouth healed quickly, as the amazing, experienced front desk lady said it would! These guys are top of the line in terms of people skills & explaining every last detail to you. Don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions. How did Vic West get this lucky?

Really friendly staff. They sorted my insurance for me right than and there. They do direct billing. Very helpful staff. I had no anxiety during my cleaning and check up. Dental hygienist explained everything as she went. Very happy with my move to this new dentist. ALSO easy access to parking. No hassle at all.

Every visit that I've had to Vic West Dentistry has been a great experience! I usually walk away with some specific ideas that will help to keep my oral health the best it can be. The Hygienists are very careful and thorough. The front desk staff always have a a pleasant welcoming smile and are incredibly efficient. And I love that if you're on a waitlist, they have a system that keeps sending openings until you get an appointment. And I love that they direct bill my insurance company.... very important because it saves a tonne of time!

I have been coming to Vic West Dentistry for almost 20 years for the regular appointments and more complicated work on few crowns. It is always true pleasure to walk into the office and be greeted with kindness and respect. Just today I had a wonderful time with Dana, the hygienist, who was so professional while cleaning my teeth and very pleasant person to talk to at the beginning and the end of my appointment. Had 2 fillings done . I always get great service and results here. - Dave. My next visit I had a hygiene appointment and it was excellent. The hygienist is great . We talk about my granddaughters and her family before work starts and while working on my teeth she is very efficient, painless and does not ask questions of me while my mouth is full of her dental utensils. Vic West is an excellent dental clinic and I'm grateful to have found Dr. Gumbmann to be my new dentist here in Victoria. His work has been very good in all aspects and I have been quite comfortable and pleased with the results at my several visits for fillings, also the dental hygiene care by Rachel was good. And, the clinic staff is friendly and quite efficient. A five star experience all the way!

Dr Bruce Tranter

General Dentist

Dr. Bruce Tranter has been running Vic West Dentistry- Vic West Health Services in Victoria for over 25 years. His main area of focus during his career has been restoring smiles through various cosmetic dentistry services.

He loves to see the genuine happiness in a person’s smile when their confidence is returned to them. Dr. Tranter's interest in dentistry started at an early age. He knew his passion was the satisfaction of making people smile. He loves being able to transform someone’s life through enhanced dental function and the aesthetic transformation of teeth is amazing – and make the best smile possible!

Originally from Collingwood, Ontario, he pursued his passion for Dentistry at McMaster University. By 1985, he graduated from the University of Toronto in Dentistry and worked with the Canadian Armed Forces for several years.

In 1989, Dr. Tranter's passion for the outdoors brought him to the beautiful West Coast. He opened Victoria’s Westside Dentistry, now known as Vic West Dentistry - Vic West Health Services, and has been helping patients in Victoria ever since. In his spare time, he likes to run trails in the Victoria area and wilderness camp in Olympic National Park.
Dr Markus Gumbmann

General Dentist

Dr. Gumbmann spent nine years as a general dentist in Toronto before moving back to his birth country of Germany. There he decided to follow his passion in root canal therapy, doing the German equivalent of a special program with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Endodontologie und Traumatologie (DGET). He worked in Germany for 11 years, primarily on a referral basis focused on, but not limited to root canals.

Dr. Gumbmann has worked with a dental microscope since 2010. This has allowed him to see under high levels of magnification and given him the ability to see the anatomy of the teeth.

He was a member of the European Endodontic Society until moving back to Canada at the start of 2020. He now is a member of an Endodontic study club in hopes of continual improvement of his skills and is excited to bring his vast experience in patient care to our practice.
